Webclassroom - Introduction

The Slovenian Webclassroom started with the first project, a continuing series of thematic topics and related resources in 2001. The Web provides immediate access to stimulating and relevant contemporary language and culture texts for learning language through culture. Topics consist of varied language activities using quality web sites and provide references for reading Slovenian texts about contemporary Slovenia. Slovenian Web resources are extensive in all spheres of life: culture, commerce, education, entertainment, government, media, and tourism. Valuable exposure to colloquial language are numerous discussion forums from Slovenia about contemporary issues.

Webclassroom - Methodology

The Slovenian Webclassroom topics is a continuing language project with the goal of learning "culture through language". it is an innovative presentation of learning "language in context"  with a range of activities from texts of the latest Web resources  to develop reading and writing skills. The project has been designed for: the teacher and independent learners, senior secondary student or the adult who is used to acquiring language skills and knowledge through reading can select and research topics of interest. A student with some basic knowledge of Slovenian can use that knowledge as a basis to gain information by reading Slovenian texts with the use of dictionary, and gradually extend his/her comprehension level. For language students and educators the topics provide a set of research and communicative tasks based on the existing Web sites, which are intended to develop and focus on Slovenian language reading and writing skills.

Introduction

The Webclassroom consists of a language project for learners to acquire language skills and knowledge of Slovenian culture through reading and writing. It is the first interactive language project for Slovenian in Victoria, and Australia, was part of the curriculum for secondary students of Slovenian at the Victorian School of Languages, Education Department of Victoria. In March 2001, six topics were published online, the start of an expanding series of thematic topics, to learn Slovenian language through the study of contemporary Slovenia and its culture. The topics are in clusters within four themes based on informative web sites; Country (Dežela), Society (Družba), Arts and Culture (Umetnost in kultura), Leisure and Recreation (Prosti čas in rekreacija).
