Dragi prijatelji / Dear friends,
2001 has been
a productive and indeed a landmark year for Thezaurus on the World
Wide Web, with exciting new developments. Thezaurus is fulfilling
its role as a cultural ambassador of Slovenian culture and language.

In this
issue we are presenting and detailing the recent major restructure
and revamping of the Thezaurus website. This is evident from
the new and stylish front page of index items and features.
Furthermore, there has been a significant expansion and new
face lifts of Slovenian Language Resources and Sloveniana
webzine projects.
Thezaurus frontpage is already featuring
all the projects that will be published in the following months.
These are:
Careerlinx:
Slovenian Connection
has been sponsored by Department of Education, a web site
providing information to potential language students about
the benefits of learning Slovenian.
Slovenian Literator - an archive of contemporary
Slovenian literature in English translation
Online Gallery Sloveniana - presenting the
artistic endeavours of Slovenian Australians.
Going back to new features and additions
of the new Thezaurus web we would like to point out the following
highlights:
Quickfinder
is a significant new feature. It enables the user to quickly
search through the contents of Thezaurus. For instance, type
"language" in the search box and the quickfinder
displays the relevant sections. There is also a web search
alternative to widen the search outside Thezaurus.
Institute
for Slovenia Studies replaces the Web page
About Thesaurus. The expanded section contains information
about the ISSV, the project Thesaurus and the Thesaurus team.
Slovenian
Language Resources has been restructured and
contains new features as well as extensive new resources,
including the information and resources for the VCE Slovenian
Study Design 2001 and new reference collections.
The language links have been updated and appear under the
title Language Resources on the Web.
Slovenian VCE Course Guidelines now have an introduction that
gives details of VCE study in Victoria and the Slovenian VCE.
Other additions are a page with prescribed VCE themes, topics
and sub-topics; a reference page with prescribed VCE Outcomes
and Tasks and an extensive list of VCE resources.

Slovenian CSF
Course Guidelines have a new introduction and sample curriculum
materials as well as Slovenian language references, introduced with
the language methodology of the education reform Curriculum and
Standards Framework (CSF) in Victoria.
Slovenian VCE
Study Resources consist of 200 titles of books and other resource
materials to be used in the thematic approach of VCE studies.
Slovenian Study
Resources contain a comprehensive updated list of language study
resources - course books, grammars, dictionaries - of over 90 titles.
Slovenian
Web classroom is a new section, introducing the web-based
Topic Outlines. These consist of student activities and tasks, and
utilise the information and materials on the Web. They reflect an
integrated approach to language learning, combining the language
skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening; grammar; a variety
of text-types and the skill of using resources available on the
Internet. Apart from the focus on Internet resources, the emphasis
in the choice of topics is on the society and culture of Slovenia.
The topics have been trialled in the Slovenian class in the Victorian
School of Languages, in Melbourne. The first topic is on the poet
France Preeren. It will be followed by the topic on Joe
Plecnik.
Webzine
Sloveniana features two new articles. The 400 year
old vine of Maribor and Slovenian Vernacular Architecture (by Borut
Juvanec). A new feature is a dropdown index of articles on every
page, so that it is no longer necessary to return to the home page
to select another article.
In the next
issue there will be more about the Thezaurus projects and activities.
Lep Pozdrav
/ Best Wishes,
Thezaurus Team
