Story of Wannabe Artist Wins Novel of the Year
Thursday, 24.06.2010
Ljubljana - A story about an aspiring artist, the first novel by an Alpine climber with few previous literary achievements, has won the Kresnik Prize for novel of the year, the most prestigious literary honour in Slovenia.

"Svinjske nogice" (Pig Legs) earned Tadej Golob the honour of lighting a bonfire atop Roznik Hill in Ljubljana Wednesday night for what is the traditional culmination of the award ceremony.
The story focuses on wannabe artist Jani Bevk, who tries to succeed in art whilst trying to provide for his family as they move into a basement boiler room-cum-apartment.
The title refers to the hero's attempt to teach himself how to tattoo by practicing on pig legs...
The award jury, chaired by literary historian Miran Hladnik, said Golob's novel was a "perfected and witty", whereas the main character's drug experiments are described in "grotesque and humorous style"...

The Kresnik Prize has been conferred by newspaper publisher Delo since 1991. Previous winners include established authors such as Lojze Kovacic (1991 and 2004), Feri Lainscek (1992 and 2007) and Drago Jancar (1999 and 2001).
